Holidays in the Salzkammergut region: fantastic lakes and breathtaking landscapes

With its 76 lakes and impressive Alpine ranges, the Salzkammergut region is definitely one of Austria’s most beautiful regions. In summer, the region is known for its numerous natural swimming lakes and the panoramic circular routes, while in winter guests love the small, less hectic ski resorts.

The Salzkammergut – a paradisiacal place at the outskirts of the Alps

With so much unspoiled nature, it’s no surprise that parts of the Salzkammergut, among them the picturesque village of Hallstatt on the shores of Lake Hallstätter See, are a UNESCO World Heritage. Also don’t miss the historic villages of Bad Ischl, Gmunden and Bad Aussee. At the latter, you can also find AlpenParks Hagan Lodge, which is particularly popular with hikers and mountain-bikers.

Altaussee salt mines

The salt mines of Altaussee are a fascinating attraction for guests of all ages. While the grown-ups learn about the mines’ history and salt-mining techniques, children turn into little cave explorers. On request, there are special guided children’s tours with Sally, the mine duck.

Visit to Hallstatt

What makes this picturesque village so special is that people have been mining salt for thousands of years there. Up until the 19th century, the village could only be reached by boat or on small trails. There’s only little space between the mountain and the lake, making Hallstatt a particularly charming place full of lovingly decorated houses, boats and unique views.

Three-lake cruise to the Styrian Salzkammergut

This breathtaking boat excursion starts at Lake Grundlsee. Next up is a casual stroll to Lake Toplitzsee. Did you know that this lake is more than 100 metres deep? The third and last lake of this tour is Lake Kammersee, where the river Traun orginitates. Soak up the magical silence of this place!
